Guest post: Types of Roles We’d Love to See Alexander Skarsgard Play
As we count down the last few weeks before Season 5 (not to mention recovering from Deadlocked), here’s a guest post about Alex to tide us over.
——————————
Alexander Skarsgard has come a long way since his bit part as Meekus in Zoolander.
Skarsgard’s big break came as sexy, blonde vampire Eric Northman on HBO’s True Blood in 2008. The Swedish actor’s fan base has grown rapidly since appearing on True Blood and his role as Eric has opened doors to a more prominent acting career. He starred in 2011’s Straw Dogs, alongside James Marsden and Kate Bosworth, as a less than lovable construction worker from the south with a flair for violence. While this role was beautifully acted and emotionally powerful, fans of this talented and Greek God-esque beauty, such as myself, would like to see him in roles that suit not only his acting, but also our fantasies. Here are some movies that we’d love to see Skarsgard star in:
A MUSICAL
Skargard’s tall frame, broad shoulders, and slightly muscular build are reminiscent of old Hollywood actors like Cary Grant and Gene Kelly. Musicals similar to Singing in the Rain, Moulin Rouge, or even The Rocky Horror Picture Show would suit Skarsgard and thrill audiences. Everybody loves a man that can sing and dance, and we would love to see Alexander doing just that. Maybe a remake of an old classic would suit his fancy, or True Blood could even be turned into a musical for the stage. We would love to see Sookie, Eric, and Bill singing and dancing their way through the vampires, werewolves, and other mythical creatures that would inevitably pop up.
A HISTORICAL PIECE
While Eric Northman’s character in True Blood doesn’t necessarily prove that Alexander would be amazing in a musical, Northman’s old world charm proves that he has the stature and potential to play a powerful leader or member of royalty. Skarsgard would be stunning as a king or leader of an empire, like King Henry XIII. There is a large body of work about King Henry XIII and the amount of historical data surrounding his reign is nearly limitless. Even though other actors have already portrayed aspects of his life, like Jonathan Rhys Meyers in The Tudors, Skarsgard could bring a different perspective to
the story. His look is so different from other actors that have portrayed King Henry that the opportunity for changing the story line would be easier to accept.
A SWEDISH FILM
Women certainly love royalty, but they also love accents. Skarsgard is originally from Stockholm, Sweden, so why not star in a movie about his native country? The beautiful scenery (and beautiful men) would only be additional perks to what would prove to be an already interesting movie. He could even star in an auto-biographical film about his own life in Sweden, and his rise to fame.
A ROMANTIC COMEDY
Finally, fans (and again, me!) need to see Alexander get the girl! In True Blood, Eric Northman falls in love with Sookie Stackhouse, but his feelings are never fully validated. A romantic comedy would fit Skarsgard perfectly. We can see his funny side along with his sensitive, romantic side. And we can only hope he would woo his lady with an acoustic guitar and a beautiful song. The audience would swoon! Plus, we can finally feel happy about him falling in love with a girl, and those feelings being reciprocated.
However, whether or not Alexander Skarsgard will actually play any of these roles is yet to be determined. There are so many other types of roles we’d love to see him in – a superhero film, perhaps? (Just imagine Alex in a cape and tights playing opposite a smoldering vixen in a Wonder Woman costume.) He already has a few films slated for release in 2012, such as Battleship, The East, Disconnect, and What Maisie Knew. Plus, we can only assume he will continue to thrill us in True Blood, and have a continued presence in Hollywood. Whatever he does, we’ll always be fans, but a girl can dream, can’t she?
Allison Heard is from HalloweenCostumes.com, where she is totally fine with writing articles that involve daydreaming about Alexander Skarsgard.

Thanks for the guest post, Allison! What are your thoughts? Did Allison nail a genre that you’d love to see Alex try, or do you have something to add to the list? Comment and let us know!

Season 5 character ads
With one month left to go until season 5 premieres, HBO has released some great new ads featuring all the major characters. Here’s Eric (click for full size):
Edit: This post had a link to all the promos, but it looks like HBO took them down for some reason. I’m sure they’ll be back, so just keep an eye on the True Blood Facebook page.

The “I Write the Songs” fanfiction contest is being rebooted just in time for book 12 and season 5! Visit the contest blog here and the ff.net profile page here. (And, of course, we’d love for you to submit your stories to the EN.net archive as well!)

Resting up for the big things ahead…
Fellow Eric-lovers, I know I’ve been a negligent webmiss for the past months. I started grad school in the fall, and I’ve been happily enjoying another new obsession (Hunger Games!) while I take a short break from Sookieland. Sometimes you just get burnt out on things, you know? But I will be back to updating this site regularly as Deadlocked and season 5 draw closer.
And, of course, there’s still Dead Air on Monday nights following new episodes of The Vampire Diaries. In the spring, Dead Air will revert back to being an Eric-centric podcast as we discuss book 12, dissect and fangirl over the new season promos, do a book 5 group read, and then talk about each episode of season 5.
So thanks for bearing with me. Team Eric – now and always!
Needed: your help!
The time has rolled around when I need to renew EN.net’s account on Blog Talk Radio so that we can continue to bring you Dead Air – interviews, episode discussions, and theme shows on fanfiction and other topics. The cost to renew for the year is $300. Last year, fans sent us every last penny we needed, and I was amazingly grateful. I’m hoping that you can help us again this year because I’m broke – in fact, the reason the site was down for several days was because the domain expired, and I couldn’t afford to renew it! Without your help, Dead Air will have to be put on hold indefinitely.
So please, please, please click the “donate” button to your left. It’ll take you to Paypal, and you can send us any amount you want, even if it’s a dollar.
If you’ve enjoyed EN.net’s interviews with Alexander Skarsgard, Kristin Bauer van Straten, and Charlaine Harris, and/or if you enjoy our discussions about True Blood, the SVM books, and The Vampire Diaries, please consider helping us.
Preview chapter 2 of “Deadlocked”!
Charlaine Harris has updated her official site with our long-awaited preview chapter of book 12, Deadlocked.
Slight spoilers follow!
I’m extremely encouraged by the fact that Eric and Sookie are still together as this book opens. In fact, Sookie says, “I love Eric and I should only bunk down with him.” I was half-expecting this book to start off with Eric and Sooks kind of separated. Best of all is this message that Pam delivers to Sookie through Eric’s day man, Mustapha: “Tell Sookie that this is the hard time that will show what she is made of.”
Hear, hear! I think Charlaine is setting things in motion to do exactly what I hope and predict in this old post: Sookie will have to fight for Eric. I can’t wait!
*swoops in to dust*
Hi, everyone! Hope the holiday season is treating you well and isn’t too hectic so far. Things have been fairly quiet in Eric land, apart from the release of the book 12 cover art and a short plot blurb (see this great post at Sookieverse Blog for more on that).
Dead Air is on hiatus with The Vampire Diaries until the new year, and then later this spring we’ll return to our home sweet home, Area 5, with a group read of book 5, discussion of book 12, and – of course – season 5 of True Blood.
Here’s hoping that 2012 brings us lots of good things in the Eric department.

…if you’re rich, of course. Which I’m not. *sigh*
Anyway, click here to bid on (or stare at and drool over and covet) this cardboard cut-out of Eric that was used at Comic-Con last year. It’s signed by 60 – count ‘em, 60! – cast and crew members. The auction is to benefit the Choroideremia Research Foundation, which is close to the hearts of Deborah Ann Woll and her boyfriend, EJ Scott, who has the disease.
