Dead Air

Hey, all! Just a heads-up that Dead Air will be live on Tuesday nights instead of Monday nights for the next several weeks. I have an online class that meets on Monday nights for four… long… hours… (I’m in it now, actually).

Here’s the link for tomorrow night’s show! And, as always, you can stream or download the show from Blog Talk Radio or iTunes to listen later.

Please don’t be shy about calling in! We love hearing from you. :D

  1. Why do you people watch True Blood? It is pretty obvious you hate the show. You never have anything good to say. In he beginning I looked forward to your podcast because they were so good, now they are all negative all the time.

  2. La Verne, I’ve responded to these same comments every time you post them, so I’ll make this the last time I do. I watch True Blood because it entertains me and I like seeing particular characters (especially Eric, Pam, and Jessica). As I’ve said numerous times, I like the show, but I have serious criticisms with it. My comments on last night’s show were mostly about things I liked (vamp Tara, Jessica, Salome and Roman, Russell, Sookie back with Bill and Eric, just to name a few).

Do I think the show is getting increasingly campy and – dare I say it – silly? Yeah. Do I still enjoy watching it? Yes. I buckle up for the madhouse ride that it’s become, and I hold onto hope that it will return to the great things I loved about it. I watch it for the glimpses of Eric, Sookie, and others that I fell in love with in the books. I watch it because I love the actors.

Tiffany and I have a good time poking fun at the show. Every week the phone lines are open for people who want to laugh with us, complain with us, or tell us why they disagree with us.

This is an Eric Northman fan site, not a True Blood fan site. There are oodles of True Blood fan sites and True Blood podcasts. If you don’t like our podcast, follow your own advice for us and True Blood, and simply stop listening to it. Different strokes for different folks.

  3. I am sorry, but I only posted this once. So, you must have heard from someone else. I know it’s a Eric Northmen website, that’s why I say you have a problem with True Blood. I don’t like everything they have done, and it clearly is not in keeping with the books (which I love), but I am trying to see this as True Blood, not the Sookie Stackhouse books. I have to or I would be doing the same thing that you and your associates do.

You are right. I will follow my own advice, because listening to your podcast has become a downer. It is not fun anymore.

  4. La Verne, I meant comments such as this one from last summer: http://www.ericnorthman.net/?p=2961#comment-4160

Movie and TV adaptations always have to be different from the books they’re based on, that’s just the nature of the game, but True Blood at this point has completely abandoned its source material altogether. That’s why I don’t even bother comparing the show to the books anymore. Enjoyed on its own terms, True Blood is crazy and fun, and I like it. But it’s sad to think of great and faithful adaptations like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones, and to know that we Sookie Stackhouse book fans had that taken away from us.

  5. Dee Dee, have a seat because you are not going to believe this. I totally agree with you. Believe or not, but I love those books, and I am not crazy about the road Alan Ball has taken True Blood. Everytime I look at Alex, I compare him to Eric in the books, and there are some parts of Eric there in the way Alex plays him, but there is so much that is different. I do understand what you are saying, but I just am trying to see the best in the show. I know it’s hard, but I try. I totally hated the first episode of this season. I am sorry for being so judgemental. I know how you feel. I am just looking at this show as something not related to the books anymore.
