Dead Ever After is here. My feelings are: “All that for this?” Feel free to discuss, and beware of spoilers in the comments, obviously.

  1. Just finished it. What a let down- I mean- what?!!! All those books for this ending? Totally dissapointed. Horrible horrible ending to the books. While some of the later books were not great, I still had faith it would end happily.

  2. I stopped reading at about 50% through and skipped to the last page (which I never, ever do), saw she was with Sam and put it down. I’m not sure if I’m going to finish it. I don’t want however she finally threw away Eric to tarnish the rest of the books. :(

  3. If you read about half the book, you ready pretty much all Eric appears in the book at all. But you did miss a Sookie/Sam sex scene where she says they slid together like seals. *shudder*

  4. I didn’t buy the book, I didn’t read the book. In fact I cancelled my order on Amazon, when I heard the the ending was going to be. I was so disappointed.

  5. Same for me!! I will not spend my money on HER or HER book. I will remember Eric & Sookie as it was.

  6. Nope, didn’t buy it, won’t read it ever. Bought the last book and have yet to read it. Actually feel foolish for ever reading the books. Didn’t watch last season of show either, but at least there is hope for it yet. Discussed by CH keeping Sookie has so hick barmaid for life while so many others suffered and died for her to live. eric is on the hook for 200 years. CH’s books have sucked since the show started. Ugg slide together like seals=Vomit!Thank goodness for FF.

  7. SO disappointed! It seems like since the TB show started, she just stopped caring about her books. :/

  8. I am so miserable I am still crying. Went on Charlaine’s community board to try and get some answers but mostly just got how I should have seen it coming and Eric was true to form and other nonsense. The Eric in this book is not the Eric we have come to know and love. Even if Eric and Sookie weren’t meant to be I feel things could have went better. DEA makes it seem as though he never loved her at all and that he had ulterior motives for any nice thing he did for her. I am so brokenhearted.

  9. I’m confused. What did Eric get from rescuing and tying himself to Sookie? Why do they keep saying Eric is true to form? What form? What selfish thing did he do from previous books that make him look selfish after they got together, even before? Why doesn’t everybody at her site acknowledge that Sam was selfish when he brought her to the wedding. It almost cost Sookie’s, Eric’s life and Mustafa and Alcide? His intention wasn’t pure, he wants her help to read the humans who targeted his family, show off Sookie. I don’t understand the logic at all. This is the stupidest book ever. Gosh! I defended Sookie before saying she’s not fickle. She is fickle. I remember Eric asking her if she always run away when the relationship gets hard. I wish he listens to his instinct. I don’t envy you for the task you have ahead of you Dee. I’m sure i need lots of tissues. I hope you extend your writing to include an epilogue for our dear Eric. I’m vindictive(it’s not healthy i know) but I want Sookie to realise that she will never be safe and normal and that she can hear Sam. Justice for abandoning Eric to slavery. Give closure to our Viking and us. He deserve that. The possibilities are endless. I wish I’m a writer. Kjwrit wrote a new story post DEA and it’s good.

    Good luck. Hugs to everybody.

  10. Betty, Charlaine’s board is not the place to go. The only people who still post there now are the handful (mostly CH’s own board mods) who liked that mess of a book. If you want to feel better, go read the plethora of one-star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads.

  11. I was saddened by the end of the series….I felt like it let Sookie down. I don’t want to read a story about one of many girls I went to school with who settled for the safe choice and never left the town they grew up in or experienced anything….I’m not saying that’s a bad choice in real life but it’s not what I want to read about—-I can watch that unfold everyday. This whole series had been about Sookie’s growth and her burgeoning relationship with the Supe world and in the end….she’s back to being a Merlotte’s employee and has very little relationship with the Vamps etc…..I feel Jason grew more in this series than Sookie did and Eric was sacrificed in the end. CH didn’t stay true to her characters as Sookie and Eric are both fighters and it’s mentioned over and over and over again throughout all the books–this shared trait they have and yet in the end–no one fought–Eric accepted his life being controlled for the next 200 years and Sookie didn’t fight to keep her man. Sam and Sookie don’t even express romantic love for each other at the end….Sam wants someone dependable and capable of “wild” sex….great—sign me up. WTF???

I’m considering this a fan fic story that I picked up and in the end didn’t care for…..LOL

  15. I am half way through the 6th book and have given up so i gather i am not missing anything in the rest of the books

    Comment by amy — May 15, 2013 @ 6:52 am

  16. Amy – book 6 is a drag, but book 7 is one of the best in the series, especially if you love Eric. It’s my favorite. There’s also good Eric stuff in the later books. Of course, you do have to ask yourself, “What’s the point?” as most of the fans have been asking lately. :-/

    Comment by DeeDee — May 15, 2013 @ 8:20 am

  17. Thanks DeeDee i might skip the rest of book 6 and try and enjoy the rest hopefully

  18. I predicted this is how she would end the series and I think this is going down second only to Twilight as the stupidest ending of all time. I bought the book hoping that something good would happen, then sneaked at peek at the very last page, saw she was talking to Sam about being together forever, and decided to look at what other fans said. She could have married Sam and been a barmaid without having any supernatural powers or experiences with the undead so what was the point of all of all that build up? I think the Sookie Verse blog nailed it. I’m sorry CH got my money, but I’m not reading something that ends with the characters that I liked so much being destroyed. I honestly think that she just got a case of the lazies and was sick of writing the series. I would honestly have preferred it if Sookie had died.

  19. Of course I was expecting for Eric to do a Sophie Anne on Freyda and then he’ll turn Sookie. And then they can both fly into the dark. Now I have images of Eric visiting Sookie 60 years later, withered and all. The book ruined my weekend. Hrmph!

  20. Anyone else read ‘After Dead’? I skimmed through it and my reaction was ‘Meh, whatever’. I can’t even muster the strength to rage against the CH’s obvious laziness

    Comment by Mrs Northman — January 5, 2014 @ 6:02 pm

  21. So after reading Dead Ever After, I really was disappointed that Sookie and Eric didn’t end up together. I mean they were a pare for a lot of the series. But, on the contrary, Charlaine Harris really did throw the irony back at all of her readers. The thing is, is that during the WHOLE series, you had to know that something was going to happen between Sam and Sookie. Throughout the series, Sam has always been there in one way or another. It just makes sense that he ends up with her. I was disappointed that Eric didn’t try harder, and didn’t seem to care about Sookie in the end, which really made him look selfish and cold. If you all remember correctly, he wanted Sookie to get him out of getting married. Her having issues doing that really shows how well the relationship was going anyway. It only makes sense that she gets with Sam if she thought his life was so precious. No, I didn’t really like that she got with Sam, but really, after reading the book, I find that it just makes sense.

  22. Shit! I’ve just ordered the harper connely mysteries by the same author and now that I’ve read this I’m afraid to read them and lose my time! What do I do?

    Comment by Jú — February 11, 2014 @ 7:16 am

  23. I think I a big fan of the series should write another ending, so we can all be happy!
