Book 10 plot summary!

This bookseller’s website has a plot summary for Dead in the Family. To read it, click on the tab that says “Full Description.” Or click through to read it here.

Major spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned!

Sookie Stackhouse has finally settled into a relationship with the Viking vampire Eric, and her errant brother Jason seems to have his life in order, too. But all the other people in Sookie’s life – Eric himself, her former lover Bill, her friend and boss Sam – are having family problems. Eric’s maker shows up with Eric’s ‘brother’ in tow, the ailing Bill can only be healed by a blood sibling, and Sam’s brother’s marriage is about to take place …or will it? The furor raised by the coming out of the two-natured has yet to settle; some people are just not ready to sit down to dinner with a man who turns into a dog. And Sookie herself is still recovering from her last ordeal. She’s definitely improving, physically and mentally, but she’s always going to have some dark moments now. The werewolves tell her that there have been strange and ominous passers-by in the Stackhouse woods; now Sookie is about to come face-to-face with one of her more distant relatives…

Charlaine Harris did confirm this as legitimate on her website, though the link to it has since been removed.

  1. WOW! How I do wish they would have followed the books! How are they going to explain Eric’s maker, when they have already said Godric was his maker, and Godric met the sun! hmmmmmmmmmm. Explain that one please

  2. This sounds so good! She has “settled in” to her relationship with Eric– thank god!

  4. Aw, Eric in the first line of the plot summery. And it’s not even saying how he is going to Peru or any thing. What more could i ask for?

  7. Humm, I bet CH will find a way to mess with our happiness! It sounds too good to be true :P

  8. Please Charlaine, let this relationship last for more than five minutes!

    Comment by Michelle — September 2, 2009 @ 12:09 pm

  9. Actually CH named Eric’s maker in book 8. He’s not Goderic or anything like Goderic so the stories are going to be completely diverged by then. Plus…can you imagine our HBO Lorena having another child besides her beloved Bill?

    Comment by Faeriewing — September 2, 2009 @ 12:10 pm

  10. YES FOR SOOKIE AND ERIC!!! THE MOMENT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR.

    Comment by Sara — September 2, 2009 @ 12:34 pm

  11. Wow. I think I need to reread book #9 because that didn’t make any sense to me. That really wasn’t a spoiler to me because I don’t remember anything that happened, lol. Either that or the show has royally screwed me up!

  12. omg I squealed in delight ‘Sookie Stackhouse has finally settled into a relationship with the Viking vampire Eric’ ohh joy I hope it last but I’m so excited & conflicted I don’t wanna keep my hopes up!

  13. This sounds to good to be true. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop! I love CH but I bet she is going to mess with our Eric happiness, you just wait! I am just glad she has not decided to follow Alan Balls idea of how things should be, could the show get any worse? The saving grace on the show is Alexander S, and Jessica’ interaction with Hoytt. I am just kinda over the show, it is deff not as good as the books!!

  14. Thank you Charlaine!!!! It is about time that Sookie gets to settle in to some happiness. Any ideas on this distant relative of Sookies? The only possibility I can foreshadow from the books is Dermot. But who knows what twists CH will have this one take.

  15. what a great tease, just what CH & publishers want to do..get us all stirred up and it is working..love the books, love Eric,Sookie, Bill and Sam. I also feel bad for Bill!! He is a vampire and only followed orders..Eric would have done the same thing. So, is Eric the one great-grandpa meant in book 9?? Hmmm will have to see..A blood relation for Bill, looks like ole Andy may have to drop a pint for ole Bill…I did watch a CH book club dialogue in which she stated Sookie would not be turned but of course that too can change..
thanks for the info..what fun..come on May 2010

  17. Thank God,
CH finally is giving Eric what is his. it’s about time. so once Bill get’s the blood he needs i hope he wont be stalking Sookie anymore & hanging out in her woods :-)

Oh Happy Day May 2010 that CH really is giving the Viking Sookie….Awsome ! i just know that this will be the best book ever . i hope that CH keeps them togather.

  18. Man this is awesome! I love eric and everything he has done for sookie since BOOK 1!! The only reason I watch True Blood is to watch the 5 minute allot time of ERIC!

Alexander Skarsgard is saving the SHOW, because Bill’s luvvvv for “SUUUKKKIE!” is getting old.

  21. I love the books, like the show. I hate because they are making Eric out to be a jerk when it comes to Sookie. Bill is the liar, not Eric, yea for Eric & Sookie. Long live the Viking…..er unlive the viking!!!!!!

    Comment by vampyrevixen — September 3, 2009 @ 2:29 am

  22. WOW!! Finally after the long wait.. hopefully Eric-Sookie relationship will last..

    Comment by teresa — September 3, 2009 @ 6:15 pm

  25. I am so excited that Eric and Sookie finally have a relationship! I pray that CH will let it be one that lasts! He has always been the hero of the books, not Bill. Yet, Sookie has never once told Eric that she loved him. In vampire lore – Sookie is Eric’s lifemate/beloved – the only one each of them can love forever. One cannot mess with that!
On TV’s True Blood, Alexander has given a face, a voice and a body, to our Viking vampire in the books, and we all fell in love with Alexander as Eric. Alan could not have cast a more perfect actor for that roll!

    Comment by Victoria Winfindale — September 6, 2009 @ 1:47 pm

  26. Also, the supe relative, might just be her horrible uncle’s ghost! That would be major creepy!!

    Comment by Victoria Winfindale — September 6, 2009 @ 1:51 pm

  27. One other thing, while I’m at it, LOL. Wouldn’t it be great if the Japanese who invented True Blood, make a major break through, and discover that if they take a male sperm and sort of blank it, insert vampire DNA, that Sookie could have Eric’s baby!!!!!!!!!! I truly live in a fantasy world lol.
