Alexander Skarsgård

Biography

Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård was born on 25 August, 1976 in Stockholm, Sweden to parents Stellan and My Skarsgård. He was the eldest sibling of four brothers and one sister. He started acting from a very young age, taking up in the footsteps of his famous father, and had his debut performance in Ake och hans varld in 1983. Following on from this success, he landed many child acting jobs but reached pivotal celebrity status in Sweden when he played 'Jojo' in Rumle Hammerichs Hunden som log in 1989.

During his teen years, Alex quit acting to pursue other interests including the study of political science, joined the Swedish marines and intended to go to a school of architecture in Stockholm. However, after this extended period of absence, he wanted to return to acting and enrolled at Marymount Theatre School in New York City. When he returned to Sweden after two years in New York, he was offered many movie parts and became one of Sweden's most celebrated actors. He has been voted Sweden's sexiest man five times.

With his success in Europe secure, Alexander has now moved his attention to gaining success in the international arena. He has returned to television by working on critically acclaimed HBO productions of Generation Kill and True Blood while also gaining recognition by filming several new movies (yet to be released).
