Episode 6: I got a right to sing the blues

Postby Bama » Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:36 am

First of all - how old is Crystal. She looks 50 for crying out loud. And I love Don Swayze's mullet.

Sookie was beyond frustrating this episode. She is stupid, obtuse, pig headed, naive… I could go on. In the books, at least Sookie knew when to shut her mouth. She did not even acknowledge Eric (Leif) in LDID when he walked into Stan's office. She knew how to work a dangerous situation. Not True Blood Sookie. She thinks everyone is going to help the damsel in distress like Bill does. Even Tara is like, WTF??? Sookie??? "You are a fucking idiot!" No truer words spoken this episode.

While I thought Sookie's impression of Bill was funny - her impression of Eric was SO not funny. But it interesting that she listens to everything he says.

I am not sure how I feel about Eric not helping Sookie - I realize in True Blood he has this 1000 yr old vengeance to act on - but in Club Dead, their team work just made the story.

I bet we will be pleased by what a mastermind / warrior / manipulator Eric is. So I am holding out for the payoff… trying not to get too bothered by this book digression.

Eric ruled this episode. I love how he brought up that he is older than the queen and that he lets her rule. How he picked her up, how she feared him, how he handled Sookie (who needed a wakeup call). I am not sure Russell is buying Eric's flirting interest.

I do like Lafayette / Jesus, but maybe in another show. LOL. This episode was so rich in vampires that it just left me wanting more. Anytime we we ventured from a vampire story line it just waned. The same with Jason's story… I could simply watch Jason eat a sandwich on film - he is such an amazing actor, but it is such a let down from what is going on at Russell's mansion.

Feisty Tara finally is back that is for sure. I have a horrible feeling that Franklin is going to survive that head bashing. Both Sookie and Tara need some schooling in Supes - and fast. Tara's scene with Franklin was amazing - how she shook with fear while she played him. She really is a good actress - she has just had a terrible story line for way too long.

Russell continues to be amazing. I wonder if Sookie caught on to all the implications of her meeting with Russell - that Bill has been investigating her, that he has not told her ANYTHING about vampires, etc., and that that Bill is not truthful.

Apparently they are following the Lorena torturing Bill story line. They are certainly making her more multi-dimensional. She loves, she is extremely troubled… what we learned about her makes her a bit sympathetic. The music playing during their conversation was amazing in the slave quarters; anyone know what it was? Those looked like actual slave quarters, btw. I wonder if that was actually filmed in MS or LA. I bet Alcide will save Sookie and that it is not Lorena that puts Sookie in the hospital (referencing the trailer). I bet it is Bill that puts Sookie in the hospital. It is the only way they can set up Season 4.

Seems as though they are merging the Sam family story line with Quinn's family - the fact that the mother was 'in the ring'.

Not enough Alcide at all! I crave Alcide. LOL It was cool to meet his amazing wolf counterpart - Thunder. AMAZING animal. It was also great to see his ass. Wow!

Is it just me, but with that whole wall of weapons Tara had to chose from, why the mace? I would've choose that big shiny battle axe next to it. One swipe and the job is done. I'm glad there is at least one strong human character. Sookie does not impress me at all. Tara is the only one to show any kind of guts. Lately that really hasn't been Tara's thing. I have a sinking feeling that Franklin is not dead either. I actually like his crazy nutiness.
I did laugh when Talbort squealed at that vampire getting staked. I looooove Talbort. I detect trouble in paradise for him and Russell. I like the Eric and Talbort scenes.
Is it just me, but did Jesus and Lafayette's kiss seem rather awkward? I do think they make a darling coupling, but that kissed seemed kind of forced upon.
Felton and Crystal. I think Crystal looks like a typical hard living southern girl. Felton look like a complete douchebag. Jason needs to heed Crystal's warning.
Yaaaay for no Joe Lee!!!! I'm getting rather sick of that bastard. Now Melinda is showing her true colors! What a bitch!!! I hope Tommy can escape that mess. I kinda like Tommy.
Arlene and Jessica as proving to be tons of fun. I enjoy the tension between the redheads.
Alcide naked!!!!! YaaaaaaaY!!!!!
This episode did belong to Eric. Love how he stood up to Sophie-Ann. Love the blue sweater. Love everything about our favorite viking god.
Speaking of Sophie-Ann, got a kick out of her playing the lotto. She must really be down on her luck to be happy about winning a hundred dollars.
Bill, Bill, Bill!!!! Why the hell Sookie even bothers is beyond me. Love Lorena the psycho!!!! AB better not make him out to be some kind of maytr. I'm already pissed of a Sookie ignorant behavior. If I knew a SOB was stalking me, I would've left him to rot! :viking:

The vampire story sure is rocking! LOVE the complicated politics to all the games everyone trying to play on each other. Fitingly it's coming down to a chess match between Russell and Eric, two master strategists and excellent actors. Russell by no means trusts Eric and is obviously testing him, which is why Eric shushed Sookie up and was so cruel to her. I thought Sookie had that figured out for a split second that in a house of enemies there's no way Eric would confess his true plans. Alas, Bill's dumb as rocks Sookie took over this episode and was so darn annoying! Bama is right, in books Sookie catches on and written much smarter than a box of hair. LOVED Eric's SHUT UP so I can think... he's trying to guess Russell's next moves so he can out-manipulate him and she's squalling about Bill! Ugh.

As for Eric choosing not to aid Sookie against Russell, I was upset at first but rewatched and saw how protective he got when Lorena threatened her. Eric doesn't fear that Russell will kill Sookie b/c he understands Sookie is too valuable. However, he knows Lorena will physical harm her so his fangs came out at her. He tipped his hand there and stupid Sookie didn't realize it.

I loved how Eric flirts so much with Talbort to sows seeds of discord between him and Russell. LOVED his come on to Russell in limo, AS did amazing work selling me that Eric would swing that way. In fact, AS sells the free sexuality so much better than Jesus. Sadly ITA that kissing was so darn weak. Damn, they were hotter selling unresolved sexual tension than actual kissing, what a disappointment.

I have a quibble how Eric and Sophie-Ann are written. In the books, I thought Eric feared and was loyal to his queen. In Trueblood, he's been openly contemptuous of her and I don't see a lick of loyalty. There's no I must protect my queen in Eric at all in the show.

As for Russell vs Sookie scene, I really like the white light power AB introduced b/c it's hat-tip to Niall white light powers. However, I'm annoyed that it was Russell who spilled Bill's research and not Eric. Of course, Sookie still has to learn Bill sought her out on queen's orders and it wasn't some fated love at first sight like she's deluded herself.

Tara shocked me this episode finally in a GOOD way. She played Franklin so smart but if she did drink his V to gain some strength why not cut off his sleeping head! Somehow I think Franklin may get off on her trying to kill him, seriously I think he may want her more for it, he's that twisted.

Lorena torturing Bill on Russell's orders made that scene far more complicated and tragic at same time. From previews I'm guessing Sookie will kill Lorena then frees a starving Bill who attacks her and sucks her near dry before Alcides can rip him off. Will Bill rape Sookie like in books? I'm guessing not b/c AB refuses to write the real bad stuff from book Bill.

Wow! I didn't even think of the merging of the Quinn storyline - GREAT point!

I also quoted the Alcide bit because that toosh is worthy of quoting again. Didn't like the char in the books, not a huge fan of his character in the show but god he is sexy.

I can't, in good conscience, say I loved it. Other than the Eric stuff, it was SO BORING. So I'll stick with what I did love...any and all things Eric!

Man, this is some game Eric's playing, isn't it? Complicated, dangerous and potentially deadly. His favorite kind. :D He's so much going on I'm having trouble keeping track if it all. First, he's trying to save Pam. By whatever means necessary. Including flirting with/seducing Russell and/or Talbot. If I didn't know better, I know I'd totally buy it. Excellent work by Alex, as always. Of course, this thing with Russell has a dual purpose. Eric now knows who is responsible for the killing of his family and wants his revenge. Trying to get Russel to trust him so that Eric can get close enough to cut off his smug head will take all of Eric's considerable powers of manipulation. Goodness. This will be after Russell helps him save Pam from the Magister, of course. See? Complicated.

And then there's seemingly dumb as rocks Sookie. What is up with that by the way? I spent most of the episode wanting to punch her in the face! One of the best parts was when Eric put his hand over her mouth to get her to shut up! Please tell me Sookie gets a clue soon. I can't stand to see her get all weepy and clingy over Bill, when he doesn't deserve it. Anyway, Eric knows that if he can find out what makes Sookie special (other than the telepathy) will give him an advantage over the others, which I imagine is what the Hadley stuff was about in the promo. Oh and Eric, you can protest about not caring about Sookie all you want, but we all saw what you did when Lorena threatened her! Let's just hope that Sookie stays alive long enough to realize your awesomeness!

You're right about Tara, but didn't that battle axe look waaaaay more tempting than the mace? If I were going to kill a vamp, I would do it quick and clean. I think it's a setup to bring Franklin back in the picture and with a vengence. I have a feeling if he was crazy before, now he's going to be a racing locomotive.
Totally ready for the whole Eric and Russell vengence.

I know everyone is mad at Tara for not using the axe, but what she did to Franklin was also incredibly brutal. Pretty much 99% of people would never do that unless someone had reeeeeeally messed with them. I think it was something therapeutic for her too. Too bad it didn't kill him.

I agree, everytime the action shifted away from the vampires it lagged on. It seems very strange. We all love Sam and such, but again his story really brings the whole show down. The episode was going great, and my boyfriend turned to me and said, "wow! No Sam this episode!" and I said, "oh... it's coming. We're not allowed to have one perfect episode this season." And sure enough, there it was.

Sookie is being such a retard. WTF. I do have a problem with the main damn character of the show being portrayed so blindly and stupid. I would much prefer to see a badass Southern girl with manners and a mean right hook. SIGH.

Cut it's head OFF with an AKE or sword!!!
Sookie's "Angry at what she's finding out that BillCompton did & what Eric did".
She's hurt~Eric is lieing about "NOT CARING" he cares~But doesn't want to show his "Hand" he's
trying really hard to catch Russell! He's "So close he can almost "Taste it"
That Crown is ERIC"S by RIGHT. It belonged to his FATHER,the KING.
Eric, became King when his Father died in his arms.
In the preview clip you hear Eric say "Everyone dies~~~INCLUDING The Imorttal~~That's Russell.

Marleneemm: Well, considering how little Sookie knew about vamps (not knowing about royalty, the healing properties of their blood, silver hurting them, "glamour", etc.) I can be positive that Tara doesn't really know anything about them either. Staking is obvious, but she probably thought bashing his brains out was enough.

Perhaps she thought if it works for zombies, it will work on vamps.

And maybe I don't want to see her kick-ass more than see her not be a complete weepy, impulsive idiot.

Eric's playing a game of Chess.
Russell Eddington maybe older that Eric Northman, but Eric's is on a mission to kill Russell
for the deaths of his Family. Eric will "Say things & do things that look like he's on Russell's
side ~but in REALITY, Eric's gathering information, from all people to USE AGAINST RUSSELL"
He'll make it UP to :sookie: later on. he won't let her get killed.
Tragedy can and IS a very powerful "Tool" and Vengence coming from Tragedy IS Explosive!!!

Um, I hope you know I was addressing your comments about Tara not knowing much about vamps. I said nothing about Eric's game of chess he was playing with Russell (which, without a doubt to anyone watching, is what he's doing.)

I'm just doubting you even read my responses, hahaha.
